Zidong “Jaxon” Wang (b. 1998) is a multidisciplinary designer and writer whose work navigates the intersection of object, emotion, and technology. His practice spans a diverse range of mediums—including typography, product design, sculpture, and styling—each reflecting his curiosity about how objects, both familiar and unfamiliar, interact with the human experience. Rooted in a desire to create intimacy between humans and the objects they encounter daily, Wang’s work challenges conventional notions of design and aesthetics, pushing boundaries to create not only functional pieces but emotional connections.

At the core of his practice is a deep exploration of how materiality and form can foster personal relationships between the viewer and the object. Whether through the tactile experience of his sculptures or the unexpected combinations in his fashion styling, Wang’s work transforms ordinary, utilitarian items into meaningful encounters. By playing with texture, form, and unexpected juxtapositions, he creates a dialogue that blurs the line between functionality and art. His installations often invite viewers to engage with objects in ways that are interactive, exploring how technology and design can serve not just utility, but also the emotional and psychological needs of users.

A central concern in Wang’s work is the humanization of technology. In an era where artificial intelligence and digital experiences increasingly permeate our lives, he is interested in how these tools can better serve us as emotional, tactile beings. His designs question how technology can move beyond being merely a tool and become something that comforts or enhances our daily lives. For Wang, intimacy with objects is not only about physical interaction but about how these objects connect with our inner worlds. Through his work, he investigates how objects can offer solace, joy, and meaning, transcending their traditional roles to become part of a larger emotional landscape.

Wang’s fashion styling exemplifies his broader design philosophy: playfulness and surprise are key components of his creative process. His styling compositions combine diverse materials, textures, and silhouettes, with unexpected contrasts that evoke a sense of both whimsy and sincerity. This playful yet thoughtful approach mirrors his broader design ethos, which encourages viewers to rethink how they relate to everyday items, from garments to digital interfaces.

Through his multifaceted practice, Wang invites viewers to reconsider their relationships with the objects that surround them. Whether it’s a product design that challenges perceptions of functionality, a sculpture that provokes emotional engagement, or a fashion piece that blends contradictory elements to create new forms of expression, his work fosters a deeper sense of connection and intimacy between people and the world around them.
