50L Closet

The 50L Closet holds roughly 50 liters worth of personal belongings. Ideal for a two-day and one-night trip, it was originally created as part of the Absurd Hotel collection in Pedro Galvao Cesar de Oliveira’s course at NYU ITP, Designing the Absurd.

A modification of the IKEA IVAR chair, the 50L Closet features two medium compartments in the front and one large compartment in the back. The medium compartment includes passport-sized slots for travel documents and precious items as well as a single circular belt slot. Touch-activated light brightens the storage area. The large compartment features a wine rack capable of holding a single bottle of wine and a single wine glass holder. The top rung of the closet doubles as a suit stand, which can be removed and used as a separate hanger. An additional three hanger slots are built into the middle to allow your jackets to be hung comfortably.  (Shown in video demo)

See a demonstration of Jaxon and Teresa’s belongings in the closet.

The storage space placements of the 50L Closet is a nod to the form created when a piece of furniture is “misused”.
